Bayer Leverkusen’s 2nd leg clash with Barcelona on their home turf certainly proved that they were not welcomed. This comes after a spirit breaking result as they suffered a 7–1 defeat against the Spanish side.

Compared to the first leg of the UEFA Champions League clash between the two rivals, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was overly impressed at how Messi outclassed the Leverkusen’s defence this time around. “I’m fortunate to have messi in my team…You won't see anyone else like him. People said that Di Stefano, Maradona and Cruyff were the best when they were playing and now it is the same for Messi. He is on the throne and it is down to him how long he stays there,” he said.
With Barcelona having qualified to next round with a historic 10–2 aggregate score, it turned-out not to be an easy task for the number 10 magician.
As Barca travelled to Germany in their first leg match to face off their opponents; Luverkusern certainly had the Berlin wall setup against the Spanish rivals. As the match picked up momentum to the 22nd minute, barca had matters under control as it stood comfortably on 78% ball position.
Although this was the case, Leverkusen made sure that Barca’s key midfielder was nowhere near a shooting range. With their plan secured, they surged for in pursuit for a goal but Barca’s defender Puyol was present to deny them such a chance.
Aware that Luverkusen’s defence was on his tail; Messi produced a defence splitting pass which enable midfielder Sanches to nail in a shot between the legs of the opposition’s keeper.
Just to make them aware than he was still a deadly threat, Messi pierced through Leverkusen’s defence like a hot knife through butter from outside the 18 yard in to the 16, but was denied a scoring chance.
In to the second half, both teams were both reciprocal in making visits to the opposition’s goal posts.  And this time around it was Leverkusen’s defender Kalder who found the back of the net for his side.

With matter now being even, Sanches hunger for the second goal was finally met went he netted in his second goal on the 55th minute. As the match progressed and grew even tenser. The master magician was left unattended to when he delivered a pass to his acquaintance Dani Alves. It was Dani Alves who also returned a favour and delivered a decent cross to Lionel Messi sliding into the right direction.
Match ended 3–1 in favour for Barcelona.
